The new Carnival car park opened in June 2017 as part of Wokingham Borough Council’s town centre regeneration scheme. The parking facility, commissioned by Wokingham Borough Council and constructed by Balfour Beatty, was originally built with a small barrier fence but due to increased safety needs they have now installed a new mesh security system.
The Protek 358, ‘prison’, mesh which has been powder coated in black, is 2.4m high and stretches over 100m around the perimeter of the car park. Due to the projects location, suspended fence poles were engineered to bolt in to the main structure stabilising the fence without the use of dig-in posts.
The council’s scheme aims to encourage footfall to the ground floor of the Carnival compound, which is now being let to American Amusements who have opened a café, bowling alley, laser quest and much more.
